On 6–7 October 2026, an Uzbek delegation led by Alisher Salomov, Adviser to the Chair of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, took part in the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Regional Dialogue for Eastern Europe and Central Asia in Tbilisi.

Speaking at a session on country climate platforms, Salomov called for moving from strategic dialogue to concrete investment initiatives. He highlighted regional cooperation on early warning, climate and environmental data exchange, water management, air quality, climate adaptation and decarbonisation.

Talks with GCF leadership focused on expanding Uzbekistan’s access to climate finance, supporting the accreditation process of Uzpromstroybank, and developing a pipeline of prospective projects. Uzbekistan also outlined areas for private investment, including waste management, water-saving technologies, sustainable agriculture, industrial decarbonisation, energy efficiency and climate-resilient infrastructure.

The delegation held meetings with several international partners. Discussions with UNIDO covered a proposed green industrialisation hub in Uzbekistan, while talks with ACTED focused on a regional climate microfinance project for Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. With the EBRD, the sides discussed environmental insurance, waste management, land restoration and investment project preparation. Incofin Investment Management discussed opportunities to expand private financing for climate-related projects.

Yuka Tamada of Chuo University and the Uzbek delegation discussed preparing a satellite-based early warning system for sand and dust storms, as well as possible greenhouse gas reduction initiatives under the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM). At a meeting with Nino Tandilashvili, First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, the sides agreed to explore joint Uzbekistan–Georgia events at COP31 in Antalya.

The dialogue helped identify further areas for climate project development, international and private financing, and regional cooperation.
