The UNCCD Interregional Group "Central Asia – Russia" (IRG) was established within the framework of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) to facilitate cooperation in implementing the UNCCD Framework Strategy for 2018–2030.
As the result of a joint agreement, six countries — the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and the Republic of Uzbekistan — have joined efforts to strengthen regional cooperation in combating desertification, land degradation, drought and climate change.
In 2003, the Subregional Action Program of Central Asian countries to combat desertification was adopted. It planned to improve crop production technologies, water use and land management in agriculture.
The IRG is intended to serve as a regional platform for the development of joint initiatives, the exchange of advanced practices and experience in the field of desertification and land degradation, as well as the promotion of long-term efforts in sustainable development within the framework of the Convention.
Our cooperation contributes to the sustainable development of the region and the preservation of natural heritage for future generations.
