Uzbekistan

Tashkent, May 23, 2025 — The Ministry of Ecology of Uzbekistan and the Chinese Academy of Sciences have agreed to establish a Central Asian Research Center for Ecology and Environment. The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding was the outcome of a meeting between Minister Aziz Abduhakimov and Professor He Hongping, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The Center will be hosted by the Central Asian University for the Environment and Climate Change (“Green University”) and will serve as a platform for joint research, capacity building, technology exchange, and the promotion of sustainable development across the region.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the implementation of the Cooperation Agreement on Environmental Protection signed in January 2024. Key priorities include the establishment of halophyte gardens, the transfer of seeds to Uzbekistan’s Forestry Agency, the introduction of digital pollution monitoring systems, and the participation of Chinese experts in the “Yashil Makon” (“Green Nation”) initiative.

The Center will support scientific events, publications, laboratory development, and the enhancement of human resource capacity. This initiative will strengthen environmental cooperation between Uzbekistan and China and contribute to addressing global climate challenges.
