Turkmenistan Hosts International Conference “Caspian Sea – Sea of Friendship and Peace”

The National Tourist Zone “Avaza” in Turkmenistan has opened the international scientific and practical conference “Caspian Sea – Sea of Friendship and Peace”, dedicated to the Caspian Sea Day, reports Turkmenportal correspondent.

The event brings together representatives of diplomatic missions from Caspian littoral statesAzerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, and Russia — as well as delegates from international organizations, including the United Nations (UN), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the European Union, and the OSCE.

Discussions will focus on the implementation of the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea (Tehran Convention), the ornithological significance of the Caspian waters, and the role of the Khazar State Nature Reserve in preserving the region’s biodiversity.

Special attention is given to environmental standards at the Turkmenbashi International Seaport and the development of ecotourism in the NTZ “Avaza.”

Through video conferencing, experts from the International Maritime Law Institute, the FAO, and the World Bank are participating in the discussions.

The forum will also address prospects for hydrometeorological cooperation among Caspian states and the role of the Caspian Sea in strengthening good-neighborly relations in the region.
