On 17 June, the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan hosted a seminar dedicated to Desertification and Drought Day.
The event brought together representatives of the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry of the Tajik Academy of Agricultural Sciences, specialists from the Committee, representatives of civil society organizations and students.
Opening the seminar, Shakhlo Azizbekova, UNCCD National Coordinator and Deputy Head of the Department of International Relations, emphasized that land degradation and desertification are closely linked to climate change, food security and migration.
Participants attended presentations focusing on landscape restoration, global challenges related to desertification and drought, climate adaptation in agriculture, environmental protection measures and sustainable water resource management.
The discussions highlighted the importance of strengthening efforts to combat land degradation and noted that the knowledge shared during the seminar would support future decision-making and environmental action.
