Tajikistan Hosts the Meeting of the Interstate Commission on Sustainable Development of Central Asian Countries

Dushanbe, November 5, 2025. — The Interstate Commission on Sustainable Development of Central Asian Countries (ICSD) convened in Dushanbe, bringing together the heads of environmental agencies from Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan, as well as representatives of international partners, including the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC), and the International Organization for Social Development of Central Asia.

Held on the sidelines of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS), the meeting focused on the region’s joint efforts to advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, strengthen environmental protection, and prepare for the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30).

Participants highlighted the establishment of the Regional Waste Management Center in Dushanbe, emphasizing its key role in sustainable land management and climate resilience across Central Asia.

Tajikistan’s National Climate Change Adaptation Strategy until 2030 was presented as a core framework for reducing climate risks and supporting sustainable socio-economic development. The country’s share of global greenhouse gas emissions remains minimal, while 98% of its electricity is generated by hydropower, positioning Tajikistan as one of the world’s leaders in clean energy production.

Speakers also underscored the international initiatives of the Founder of Peace and National Unity, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Emomali Rahmon, in the fields of water diplomacy and environmental cooperation, reaffirming the country’s leadership in promoting global dialogue on water and climate.
