22 July 2026 — The Central Asian Center for Ecology and Environmental Research hosted the presentation and exhibition "Best Practices in Building the Ecological Protection Barrier in Inner Mongolia", organized by the Forestry Agency under the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan in cooperation with the National Forestry and Grassland Administration of the People's Republic of China.
The event provided an international platform for exchanging expertise on combating desertification, restoring degraded lands, promoting sustainable natural resource management, and advancing innovative environmental technologies.
Participants included Aziz Abdukhakimov, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Environmental Issues and Chairman of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, Erkin Mukhitdinov, Director of the Forestry Agency, Shi Guanhui, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, as well as representatives of government institutions, research organizations, international partners, and the media.
Discussions focused on preventing land degradation, restoring degraded ecosystems, expanding afforestation efforts, and strengthening bilateral environmental cooperation. Particular emphasis was placed on the application of innovative technologies and scientific research in sustainable forest and rangeland management.
A highlight of the event was the exhibition showcasing China's achievements in combating desertification in Inner Mongolia, featuring the results of large-scale ecological restoration programmes and the establishment of an ecological protection barrier. Participants also viewed the documentary "Green Silk Road: Rebirth in the Desert", which presented China's long-term Three-North Shelterbelt Forest Programme and its experience in restoring arid landscapes.
The practical programme facilitated knowledge exchange between Chinese and Uzbek specialists on ecosystem restoration, forest resource management, nursery development, and environmental education.
A major outcome of the event was the signing of a Cooperation Agreement between M-Grass Ecology and Environment Group Co., Ltd. and Green University. The agreement provides a framework for joint initiatives in seedling production, restoration of degraded rangelands, combating desertification, and the application of advanced environmental technologies.
The agreements reached mark another milestone in Uzbekistan–China environmental cooperation, creating new opportunities for collaborative projects aimed at ecosystem conservation, increasing forest cover, and strengthening resilience to climate change.
