During the 30th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-30) in Belém, Brazil, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Hydrometeorology Agency of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Japanese company ArkEdge Space Inc.

The MoU marks a significant step for cooperation in capacity building, remote sensing of glaciers, monitoring climate change, greenhouse gases, and air quality, which is crucial for enhancing climate resilience and scientific capacity.

During the event, Director of the Hydrometeorology Agency, Kurbonzoda Abdullo, met with Kentaro Doi, Deputy Minister for Global Environmental Affairs of Japan, where both parties expressed their commitment to joint scientific publications, participation in international conferences, and exploring funding opportunities with international partners.

The signing of the MoU underscores Tajikistan’s commitment to strengthening climate science, expanding international cooperation, and developing innovative approaches to climate monitoring, particularly important for a country with the largest glacier resources in Central Asia.
