Bangkok, Thailand, March 24–27, 2026 — a representative of the Scientific Information Center of the Interstate Commission for Sustainable Development (SIC ICSD) took part in the 64th Plenary Session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), held at the ESCAP headquarters.

The session brought together around 300 delegates representing IPCC member governments and observer organizations from around the world. The main objective of the meeting was to advance work under the Seventh Assessment Cycle (AR7).

During the four-day session, participants discussed the revision of the Principles and Procedures governing IPCC operations, which are updated every five years and are essential for ensuring comprehensive, transparent, and science-based climate assessments. It was decided to continue consideration of this issue at future sessions.

Participants also addressed the timeline for the preparation of the Seventh Assessment Report (AR7). Although no final decision was reached, member countries expressed their intention to agree on the timeline at the next session.

Particular attention was given to the financial status and resource mobilization for the IPCC Trust Fund, which relies on voluntary contributions and supports the participation of developing countries and the scientific community.

In addition, participants approved the work program of the Task Group on Data Support for Climate Change Assessments.

The 64th session also marked the final session for IPCC Secretary Abdalah Mokssit, who has led the Secretariat over the past decade. Participants expressed appreciation for his significant contribution and dedication.

Participation of the SIC ICSD representative contributes to strengthening regional cooperation among Central Asian countries on climate change and integrating regional priorities into global scientific and policy processes.
