On April 1, 2026, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Y. Nysanbayev, chaired a meeting on ongoing scientific research activities on the dried bed of the Aral Sea. The meeting was attended by researchers from the Kazakh Research Institute of Forestry and Agroforestry Reclamation, as well as specialists from the Committee of Forestry and Wildlife.
During the meeting, participants reviewed key areas of scientific research being carried out on the dried territory of the Aral Sea, along with the current activities of research personnel involved in these efforts.
Following the meeting, a number of поручения were issued to the Almaty branch of the профильного institute. In particular, it was instructed to ensure oversight of seedling cultivation and the establishment of phytomeliorative plantations on the dried seabed.
In addition, work will continue on the development and practical application of new technologies and methods aimed at ecosystem restoration and improving the environmental situation in the region.
These measures are intended to mitigate the negative impacts of the Aral Sea’s desiccation, including dust storms, land degradation, and biodiversity loss, while supporting the development of a sustainable natural environment in the affected area.
