Ruslan Edelgeriyev Holds Meetings of Expert Groups on Russia’s Participation in the UN Convention to Combat Desertification and the Convention on Biological Diversity

Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation and Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Change and Water Resources, Ruslan Edelgeriyev, chaired the second meeting of the expert group on the Russian Federation’s participation in the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in countries experiencing severe drought and/or desertification, particularly in Africa, as well as the fourth meeting of the expert group on biodiversity and Russia’s participation in the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). The meetings were held within the framework of the interagency working group under the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation on climate change and sustainable development.

The meetings addressed preparations for the participation of the Russian delegation in the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, scheduled to take place in Ulaanbaatar in August 2026, as well as the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, which is planned for October 2026 in Yerevan.

Particular attention was given to the organization of national pavilions and side events aimed at showcasing the scientific, technological and investment potential of the Russian Federation, as well as to engaging the business community in participation in these international negotiation platforms.

In addition, the meetings reviewed the status of the Russian Federation’s implementation of its international commitments under the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification and the Convention on Biological Diversity.
