Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan Advance Cooperation on Sustainable Mountain Development

15 July 2026 — Representatives of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Uzbekistan held a bilateral videoconference to strengthen cooperation on sustainable mountain development, climate change adaptation, and regional environmental initiatives.

The meeting brought together Zhusipbek Kazbekov, Deputy Chairman of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Dinara Kemelova, Special Representative of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic on the Mountain Agenda.

During the discussions, both sides explored opportunities to enhance bilateral and regional cooperation, reviewed preparations for the Second Global Mountain Summit "Bishkek+25", and discussed prospects for expanding scientific collaboration and implementing joint environmental initiatives.

The Kyrgyz side briefed participants on preparations for the Second Global Mountain Summit "Bishkek+25", scheduled to take place 21–23 October 2027 in Bishkek, and expressed its hope that the Republic of Uzbekistan would participate at a high level.

Particular attention was given to the conservation of mountain ecosystems, glacier monitoring, assessment of climate change impacts, and mobilizing international financing for sustainable development projects. The Kyrgyz side also expressed interest in establishing cooperation with the Central Asian Green University for Environmental and Climate Change Studies (Green University).

Representatives of Uzbekistan reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening regional cooperation in environmental protection and highlighted the country's participation in international initiatives focused on glacier research, cryosphere studies, and the conservation of transboundary mountain ecosystems.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Uzbek side invited its Kyrgyz counterparts to participate in Eco Expo Central Asia 2027, an international environmental exhibition to be held in Tashkent from 15 to 17 June 2027.
