Kyrgyzstan and UNDP Discuss Expanding Cooperation on Climate and Environmental Priorities

On 4 March 2026, a meeting was held between A.T. Toktobaev, Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic, and Alexandra Solovieva, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Kyrgyz Republic.

During the meeting, Alexandra Solovieva expressed appreciation for the ongoing partnership and provided an update on current joint initiatives between UNDP and the Ministry.

The parties discussed key priority areas for further cooperation, including climate change issues, particularly the implementation of the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0), development of transparency mechanisms and carbon markets, and preparations for the COP31 international climate conference.

Special attention was given to biodiversity conservation, including the implementation of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP 2040), preparation of the 7th National Report, progress on the “Pamir-Alai” project, and cooperation with international financing mechanisms such as the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

The discussion also addressed the international environmental agenda, particularly preparations for the upcoming Regional Environmental Summit 2026.

Another focus of the dialogue was on grant implementation mechanisms, including NIM/GEF projects, development of initiatives related to waste management and the circular economy, and opportunities to mobilize additional financing through GEF-9, the Loss and Damage Fund, and the Adaptation Fund.

Minister A.T. Toktobaev emphasized that cooperation with UNDP is a strategically important direction for the Ministry. He expressed appreciation for the support provided and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to further strengthening the partnership in the context of implementing national environmental priorities and preparing for upcoming international events.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties confirmed their mutual commitment to strengthening and expanding cooperation in the discussed areas.
