On 8 December 2025, the Seventh Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) opened in Nairobi, bringing together global leaders to shape international environmental policy. UNEA remains the world's highest decision-making body on environmental matters within the UN system.

The delegation of Kazakhstan, led by Vice Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mr. M.T. Oshurbayev, is actively participating in the Assembly’s discussions and meetings.

On 9 December 2025, on the sidelines of UNEA-7, Vice Minister Oshurbayev held a series of bilateral meetings with key international counterparts, including:
Hon. D. Barasa, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry;
Ms. A. Rossbach, UN-Habitat Deputy Secretary-General and Executive Director;
Dr. J. Skea, Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC);
Ms. I. Andersen, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UNEP.

Kazakhstan also hosted an official side event titled “Drying Seas and Lakes: A Global Catastrophe of the 21st Century”, which gathered heads of international organizations and foreign delegations. The discussion focused on the alarming shrinkage of major water bodies and the urgent need for enhanced global cooperation to prevent further degradation.

Before the conclusion of UNEA-7, the Kazakh delegation will take part in events dedicated to the Day of Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) and engage in discussions on strengthening the role of environmental treaties in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.
