A meeting was held between the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Yerlan Nysanbayev, and the Director General of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for Central and West Asia, Ms. Lea Gutierrez.
The parties discussed promising areas for expanding collaboration in the field of environmental protection and advancing joint initiatives to support sustainable and climate-resilient development.
Minister Nysanbayev expressed Kazakhstan’s appreciation for ADB’s contribution to national decarbonization efforts, including support for the NDC Advance initiative, the preparation of the updated NDC 3.0, and technical assistance in developing the National Waste Management Concept, aligned with leading international practices.
The Minister invited ADB to host a dedicated side event at the 2026 Regional Environmental Summit, focused on the “From Glaciers to Farms” (G2F) programme. He also requested support in identifying moderators and speakers on key thematic areas such as climate adaptation, water resilience and climate finance.
The Kazakh side additionally highlighted productive cooperation with ADB within the Energy Transition Mechanism project and expressed readiness to support its further implementation.
In response, Ms. Gutierrez thanked the Minister for the invitation to the Regional Environmental Summit and acknowledged the contribution of ADB experts engaged in the development of the waste management concept. She confirmed the Bank’s willingness to continue supporting Kazakhstan’s environmental initiatives.
Both sides expressed hope for further strengthening of the partnership and advancing joint environmental projects.
