Eco Expo Central Asia 2026, GEF Assembly VIII and Green University: National Ecology Committee held a press conference

A press conference dedicated to Eco Expo Central Asia 2026, the Eighth Assembly of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), as well as the activities of Green University and newly established “green colleges,” was held at the Central Asian University for Environmental and Climate Studies (Green University) under the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Representatives of government agencies, relevant institutions, university leadership and media organizations attended the event.
During the event, participants emphasized that Uzbekistan is once again becoming a venue for major international environmental events, where special attention will be given to climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, combating land degradation and desertification, water resource management and reducing environmental pollution. Participants also highlighted the role of Green University and the development of a network of “green colleges” aimed at training highly qualified environmental specialists.
Information was also presented on the Eighth GEF Assembly, which is expected to include nine high-level roundtables and more than 50 side events, alongside the launch of new international environmental initiatives and projects. The Assembly is expected to strengthen international cooperation, attract investment and support projects related to climate adaptation, restoration of the Aral Sea region ecosystems, biodiversity conservation, renewable energy and sustainable agriculture.
A separate segment focused on Eco Expo Central Asia 2026, which is expected to bring together participants from more than 100 countries, including international organizations, investors, environmental technology companies, eco-innovators and experts. More than 68 thematic pavilions and an additional 20 startup platforms from Uzbekistan and Central Asian countries are planned as part of the exhibition.
Organizers also reported that regional authorities had prepared project initiatives aimed at climate adaptation, efficient use of natural resources and strengthening environmental sustainability. These initiatives are expected to be presented to international donors, investors and development partners.
