From Archived Maps to Digital Tools: Uzbekistan Presents Soil Information System

On 9 September, Uzbekistan presented the results of the project “National Soil Information Systems to Support Agrifood Systems Transformation in AFACI Countries.” The project aims to improve access to soil data and support its use in agriculture and land management.

The event was organized by the Soil Analysis Center, a state institution, and brought together representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, international and national experts, researchers from the Research Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry, and other sector specialists.

A key outcome was the digitization of historical soil maps and laboratory data and their integration into a unified information system. Participants reviewed the work completed and explored the features of the project’s web portal and mobile application.

These digital tools expand opportunities to search, analyze and apply soil information. They lay the groundwork for agricultural and land management decisions informed by specific data and analytical findings.

Following the presentation, participants shared recommendations for further improving the web portal and mobile application, making more effective use of the system and advancing the next stages of work.
