A delegation from Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, led by Minister’s Advisor Alisher Salomov and representatives of the Agency for Waste Management and Circular Economy, took part in the ERG International Environmental Forum “Ecology and Production: The Path to a Sustainable Future.”

The forum brought together government officials, businesses, academics, and NGOs from across Central Asia, serving as a regional platform for dialogue on industrial ecology and sustainable development. Key topics included the introduction of Best Available Techniques (BAT), digitalization of environmental processes, waste management systems, and the role of civil society and NGOs in ensuring transparency.

In his remarks, Alisher Salomov emphasized that under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Uzbekistan is pursuing large-scale reforms to build a “green economy.” The year 2025 has been declared the Year of Environmental Protection and Green Economy in Uzbekistan. A new state program sets ambitious targets: increase waste recycling to 60% and the share of renewable energy to 54% by 2030.

Among the highlighted initiatives:

  • establishment of the Agency for Waste Management and Circular Economy;

  • rollout of the electronic billing system “Toza Makon,” covering more than 23 million people;

  • development of waste-to-energy plants with support from international investors.

Salomov also stressed the importance of Uzbekistan’s accession to the Aarhus Convention (March 2025) and efforts to raise environmental awareness through nationwide campaigns.

In conclusion, he invited participants to attend the Eco Expo Central Asia 2026 in Samarkand, to be held as part of the 8th Assembly of the Global Environment Facility.

The Pavlodar forum has become a significant regional platform for sharing best practices and promoting green transformation, highlighting Uzbekistan’s active role in advancing international environmental cooperation.
