Uzbekistan Expands International Cooperation on Climate Resilience and Land Restoration
A series of high-level meetings focusing on climate resilience, land restoration, and environmental investments took place on the sidelines of the Tashkent International Investment Forum.
Chairman of the Committee on Ecology and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Aziz Abdukhakimov, held discussions with representatives of international financial institutions and organizations to explore opportunities for cooperation in green economy development, sustainable natural resource management, and climate adaptation.
One of the key meetings was held with Dilma Rousseff, President of the New Development Bank (NDB). The parties discussed prospects for expanding cooperation in financing green projects, sustainable infrastructure, and climate-related initiatives.
Particular attention was given to land restoration, combating desertification, and strengthening water resilience. Uzbekistan presented several national environmental initiatives aimed at afforestation, expansion of protected areas, improvement of waste management, and reduction of environmental pressures.
The discussions also covered the implementation of water-saving technologies, rainwater harvesting systems, and sustainable land management practices to address the impacts of climate change.
Cooperation with the Organization of Turkic States was another important topic, particularly in the areas of drought monitoring, land degradation assessment, and climate adaptation. The parties emphasized the importance of early warning systems for sand and dust storms, remote sensing technologies, and climate analytics.
Among the forward-looking initiatives discussed was the proposed “Desert Economy Startup Corner” to be organized during Eco Expo Central Asia 2027. The platform is expected to showcase innovative solutions and startups focused on desertification control, land restoration, water efficiency, and sustainable development in dryland regions.
The meetings highlighted the growing importance of international partnerships and investment cooperation in advancing climate resilience and sustainable land management across Central Asia.
