In Tashkent, the Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov, met with Ashihari Motoyuki, Deputy Director of the Center for Biological Sciences and Biotechnology at Nagoya University (Japan).
During the talks, both sides reviewed the current state of cooperation in the agricultural sector and outlined new prospects for joint projects.
Ashihari Motoyuki emphasized that the unique taste and high quality of Uzbek agricultural products significantly increase their competitiveness in the global market. He also stressed the strategic importance of cooperation with Uzbekistan in light of the growing challenges of climate change.
The Minister highlighted Uzbekistan’s focus on agro-biotechnology and presented ongoing research at the Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics, including the development of new crop varieties adapted to arid and saline conditions.
Special attention was given to initiatives on breeding resilient rice varieties, suitable for cultivation in saline soils with limited water resources.
This meeting is expected to lay the groundwork for new scientific and practical initiatives, further strengthening agricultural cooperation between Uzbekistan and Japan.
