Tashkent hosted the Uzbek-Japanese Environmental Business Forum titled “Promoting Sustainable Development through Bilateral Cooperation in Uzbekistan.” The event focused on enhancing collaboration between Uzbekistan and Japan in the fields of environmental protection, sustainable infrastructure, and green technologies.

The forum provided a platform for sharing experience, presenting innovative solutions, and discussing new areas of environmental cooperation between the two countries. Participants highlighted Uzbekistan’s approaches to environmental protection as well as Japan’s initiatives aimed at strengthening international environmental cooperation.

Particular attention was given to Uzbekistan’s investment potential, opportunities for business engagement, and prospects for expanding Uzbek-Japanese partnerships in environmental technologies.

During the forum, J. Kazbekov, Deputy Chairman of the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change of Uzbekistan, emphasized that the successful implementation of environmental priorities requires the introduction of innovative technologies and the expansion of international cooperation. He noted that Japan remains one of the world’s leading countries in environmental technologies, making bilateral cooperation particularly valuable for Uzbekistan.

Kazbekov also recalled that the Memorandum of Cooperation signed in 2022, along with the “Central Asia + Japan” Summit held in Tokyo in 2025, had opened new opportunities for partnership. According to him, the forum could serve as an important platform for the exchange of advanced technologies, the implementation of new investment projects, and the strengthening of business cooperation between the two countries.

During the event, representatives of government institutions and companies from both countries presented projects and technological solutions addressing key environmental priorities.

Among the issues discussed were:
air quality monitoring and water resource management;
development of modern waste management systems;
implementation of climate initiatives and climate change adaptation measures.

Kentaro Doi, Deputy Minister of the Environment of Japan, stated that Japan had previously faced significant environmental challenges during its period of rapid industrialization but had managed to successfully overcome them.

He noted that Uzbekistan is currently experiencing a phase of industrial development that may also bring environmental challenges, and emphasized that cooperation between the two countries aims to help prevent similar negative environmental impacts. According to him, the forum could become an important bridge for strengthening joint efforts in environmental protection and sustainable development.

The forum concluded with bilateral meetings between the Uzbek delegation and representatives of Japanese companies, which focused on establishing direct partnerships, discussing joint projects, and expanding business cooperation.

The event marked an important step toward strengthening environmental cooperation between Uzbekistan and Japan, as well as promoting modern green technologies and joint initiatives aimed at enhancing environmental sustainability in the region.
