The 4th High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development” (2018–2028) has concluded in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Held within the framework of the Dushanbe Water Process, the conference served as an important platform for discussing water resource management, climate change, and progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.

The event brought together heads of state and government, representatives of the United Nations, international and regional organizations, financial institutions, academia, and civil society. Over four days, participants exchanged views on strengthening international cooperation in the water sector, advancing commitments under the UN Water Action Agenda, and accelerating implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

On the sidelines of the conference, on 26 May 2026, Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan Bahodur Sheralizoda held meetings with Ruslan Edelgeriyev, Special Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation on Climate Issues, and Lifeng Li, Director of the Land and Water Division of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in meteorology and climatology, glacier monitoring, professional training in hydrometeorology, and opportunities to attract additional climate finance for projects in agriculture, forestry, and environmental protection.

The parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening partnerships, developing joint initiatives, and expanding international cooperation to support sustainable development and climate adaptation efforts.

The conference marked an important step in preparations for the 2026 UN Water Conference and highlighted the importance of collective international action in addressing global water and climate challenges.
