From August 5 to 8, 2025, the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) is taking place in Avaza (Turkmenistan). The forum has brought together representatives of states, international organizations, and the expert community to discuss priorities for the coming decade.
On August 6, the Conference continued in a plenary session format. The central themes of the second day focused on overcoming the challenges linked to the geographical isolation of LLDCs and identifying mechanisms to accelerate their socio-economic development. Participants emphasized the importance of a global dialogue on equal opportunities and presented national priorities for addressing key issues.
Special attention was given to the modernization of transport infrastructure, including the development of ports and logistics hubs, with mandatory consideration for environmental sustainability. Speakers noted that transitioning to a new decade-long program requires consolidated efforts at global and regional levels, and that the practical implementation of the Avaza Programme of Action will be a significant contribution to the sustainable development of LLDCs.
Proposals included expanding international cooperation, introducing innovative approaches, and attracting investment in logistics, infrastructure, and ensuring freedom of transit. Speakers confirmed their readiness to support the Avaza Programme of Action and to unite the efforts of the global community to achieve the set goals.
It was emphasized that the 2026–2035 programme provides for national measures, the development of regional partnerships, and a global strategy aimed at turning vulnerabilities into new opportunities. The document is positioned as a future-oriented roadmap capable of providing LLDCs with a solid foundation for sustainable economic growth and improved quality of life for their populations.
