RESILAND in Tajikistan: Building Trust and Social Equity through Sustainable Landscape Management
29/11/2026
Between 13 and 20 January 2026, a field mission was conducted in the districts of Kabodiyon, Shahritus and Nosiri Khusrav as part of the “Restoring Sustainable Landscapes in the Republic of Tajikistan” (RESILAND Tajikistan) project, with the participation of project specialists.
The mission aimed to monitor the implementation of project activities at the community level through Pasture User Associations and Common Interest Groups, as well as to review documentation, assess the use of agricultural machinery and plan further actions.
During the visits, working meetings were held with leaders of pasture user associations, group representatives and local residents. The monitoring confirmed that machinery, equipment, greenhouses and veterinary supplies provided under the project are largely operational and used for their intended purposes. The use of equipment follows established procedures, while generated income is reinvested in community needs, contributing to transparency and trust among beneficiaries.
Project-supported greenhouse and beekeeping initiatives are helping to diversify income sources and improve livelihoods. Particular attention was paid to the condition of pasturelands, where fenced areas were found to be in satisfactory condition, with visible recovery of vegetation cover and increased productivity.
Joint monitoring of demonstration plots with district specialists showed promising prospects for pasture restoration, provided that pasture rotation practices and sustainable land-use principles are consistently applied.
Overall, the mission enabled stakeholders to assess implementation progress, strengthen cooperation with local partners and identify priorities for future activities. Community representatives expressed satisfaction with the project’s support and confirmed their commitment to the effective and responsible use of provided resources.
The RESILAND Tajikistan project is part of the World Bank–funded RESILAND CA+ regional programme, which aims to enhance landscape resilience and improve livelihoods across Central Asia. Similar projects are being implemented in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, contributing to shared regional objectives.
The regional component of the project is supported by the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC), which facilitates coordination, knowledge exchange and regional cooperation.
