National Committee of Uzbekistan Participates in High-Level Discussions Ahead of RES 2026

A delegation of the National Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Ecology and Climate Change, led by First Deputy Chairman Obidjon Kudratov, participated in a high-level meeting ahead of the Regional Environmental Summit (RES 2026) and in a Regional Roundtable on Children, Youth and Climate Change.
The events brought together representatives of профиль ministries of Central Asian countries, international organizations and the expert community with the support of UNICEF. Among the participants were Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan Yerlan Nysanbayev and First Vice Minister of Education Mereke Meldebekova.
Discussions focused primarily on preparations for RES 2026 and the advancement of the regional “Green School” platform, aimed at developing environmentally sustainable education systems. Countries presented national priorities under the updated NDC 3.0 commitments, particularly in education and child rights protection, as well as best practices in implementing the Green School approach.
Obidjon Kudratov emphasized the strategic importance of coordinated regional approaches and highlighted the significance of the 2022 Declaration on Children, Youth and Climate Action. He also informed participants about the adoption in Uzbekistan of a National Strategy to promote a culture of sustainable development and youth engagement in climate policy.
Rector of Green University B. Pulatov noted that the updated Uzbekistan NDC 3.0 for the first time includes a dedicated section on the protection of children’s rights and interests, and underlined cooperation with UNICEF in developing the Roadmap for NDC 3.0 implementation.
During the visit, a meeting was held with Yerlan Nysanbayev, where the parties discussed saiga conservation efforts, including the initiative to transfer 500 saiga antelopes to Uzbekistan, as well as issues of transboundary air pollution and coordination of joint measures to reduce environmental risks.
The delegation also visited the EXPO Exhibition Center and the Congress Center, which will host the main RES 2026 events. Discussions covered the organization of the international exhibition, formats of side events and thematic sessions, promotion of the “C5+1” format, and logistical, accreditation and protocol arrangements.
Special attention was given to the creation of “Tree” art installations symbolizing the national priorities of the region’s countries.
Following the meetings, the parties confirmed their readiness for further cooperation and agreed on priority steps for preparing the Regional Environmental Summit 2026.
