During the 44th session of the Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)Kazakhstan’s Minister of Agriculture, Aidarbek Saparov, proposed the creation of a regional platform for agricultural innovation in Central Asia.
Saparov emphasized that Kazakhstan is ready to take the lead in launching the project, combining international expertise with its own potential in the field of sustainable agriculture.
In his speech, he also outlined the key directions of Kazakhstan’s agricultural policy. Special focus is being placed on digitalization — more than 200 million hectares of agricultural land have already been mapped digitally.
The country is also expanding the use of water-saving technologies, which now cover over 470,000 hectares of cropland. In parallel, the government is working on economic incentives for water conservation, including investment subsidies and tariff mechanisms. Kazakhstan is also promoting the principles of carbon farming and is developing a law on soil protection.
During the conference, the Minister held a meeting with FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu. The two sides discussed issues related to land restoration, increasing agricultural productivity, and enhancing international cooperation.
