On 22 October 2026, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Alibek Kuantyrov, chaired a working meeting on the practical implementation of mechanisms under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and the development of international climate cooperation.
Participants included R. Batalov, a non-staff adviser to the President of Kazakhstan on entrepreneurship development, and representatives of SAFC, SEFE, TotalEnergies, Tengizchevroil (TCO), NCOC, Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. and NC KazMunayGas JSC.
Discussions covered regulatory issues, mechanisms for implementing climate projects, opportunities to attract international investment and the use of carbon market instruments. Promising areas included methane emission reductions, reforestation and other projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance removals.
The meeting outlined further steps to advance Kazakhstan’s climate initiatives within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) framework and strengthen cooperation with international partners.
