As part of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s directives on comprehensive research into the Caspian Sea’s challenges, the Government Reserve has allocated 305 million tenge to the Kazakh Research Institute of the Caspian Sea (KazNII). The resolution was signed by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov.
The institute was established to address environmental issues of the Caspian Sea. Its scope includes assessing fish stock reserves, developing conservation methods, studying ichthyofauna, identifying the causes of mass seal mortality, and preserving seal populations. It also conducts research on hydrological processes, monitors sea levels, analyzes climate change impacts, and collects data on water quality and biodiversity in Kazakhstan’s sector of the Caspian.
The allocated funds will enhance the institute’s hydrobiology, hydrochemistry, hydrometeorology, and satellite monitoring laboratories, enabling timely and effective scientific work.
