Bishkek, July 22, 2025 — The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Kyrgyzstan published an analytical overview highlighting key areas of support for the agricultural sector, emphasizing the importance of sustainable agriculture, digitalization, eco-friendly technologies, and climate change adaptation.

According to the publication, agriculture and agro-processing are identified as priority sectors in the National Development Programme until 2030. The primary focus is on increasing productivity, competitiveness, and export potential — particularly for products such as honey, dried fruits, and nuts — through the implementation of international quality standards such as GLOBAL GAP, HACCP, and ISO.

A key component of the strategy is supporting micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises through training, cooperative development, and access to finance. At the same time, UNDP promotes the sector’s digital transformation and helps expand farmers’ access to electronic sales platforms.

The bulletin also highlights active efforts in climate adaptation, including a joint project with KOICA on water resource management in Batken region, which has been submitted to the Green Climate Fund with a $50 million grant request. Additional initiatives include the adoption of water-efficient technologies, rehabilitation of degraded lands, and biodiversity conservation under the “Pamir-Alai” project.

According to UNDP, the anticipated results include:

  • a 20% increase in production and exports,
  • the creation of at least 300 new jobs,
  • women holding no less than 50% of these jobs,
  • training provided to over 400 farmers and MSME representatives.

The document underscores that UNDP will continue its strategic partnership with government institutions and international organizations to scale up climate-resilient solutions and strengthen the agricultural sector in the Kyrgyz Republic.
