International Environmental Conference in Altai: Eurasian Countries Join Efforts in Sustainable Development

On 25 July 2025, the International Environmental Conference took place in the Altai Republic, gathering delegations from eight countries: the Russian Federation, Republic of Armenia, Republic of Belarus, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Kazakhstan, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. The participants reaffirmed their commitment to deepening environmental cooperation, both bilaterally and within regional and international frameworks.
The conference opened with the plenary session "Environmental Challenges: Towards Sustainable Development", during which the prime ministers of seven countries presented the key elements of their national environmental protection policies. The discussion focused on climate change, ecosystem restoration, modernization of environmental regulations, and increasing resilience to ecological risks.
A central part of the agenda was the expert session "How to Maintain the Global Water Balance?", featuring ministers of natural resources, environment, and ecology. Discussions addressed the impact of climate change on regional water resources, transboundary water cooperation, and measures to prevent pollution and ensure sustainable access to clean water.
Key outcomes of the conference included:
Agreement on enhanced cooperation in environmental monitoring, scientific data sharing, and technology exchange;
Objectives set for developing transboundary ecological tourism and integrating protected areas;
Emphasis on joint efforts to combat environmental degradation and preserve biodiversity across Eurasia;
Identification of key areas of bilateral cooperation, including restoration of aquatic ecosystems, regulatory harmonization, and digitalization of environmental monitoring.
The conference became a landmark event for environmental diplomacy in Eurasia and served as a catalyst for further coordination of regional efforts toward sustainable development.
