Rome, Italy — October 2025 — The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) marked its 80th anniversary at the World Food Forum, focusing on global food security and sustainable agriculture.
The forum highlighted FAO’s key achievements over eight decades, including promoting sustainable agricultural practices, combating hunger, and introducing innovative technologies to enhance food security. Special emphasis was placed on the transition from traditional methods to modern approaches that support a sustainable future for food systems.
The event brought together representatives of UN member states, international experts, agribusiness leaders, and research organizations. Participants exchanged experiences in sustainable management of land and water resources, rural development, and reducing food loss.
The FAO Director-General emphasized that the organization will continue to support countries in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 2 — Zero Hunger and Goal 12 — Responsible Consumption and Production. It was noted that FAO’s legacy and current initiatives provide a foundation for a sustainable food future worldwide.
