Dushanbe, July 2, 2025 — In 2026, Dushanbe will host the Regional Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for Europe and Central Asia. The announcement was made during a meeting between the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan, Qurbon Hakimzoda, and FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu, held on the sidelines of the 44th FAO Conference.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture of Tajikistan, as reported by NIAT “Khovar,” the parties discussed a wide range of cooperation areas, including:
Establishing a national exhibition space of Tajikistan at FAO headquarters in Rome, reflecting traditional architectural heritage;
Accelerating the submission of official documentation for the inclusion of Hissar sheep and the “taifi” grape variety in the FAO’s Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS);
Supporting Tajikistan’s international water and climate initiatives;
Ensuring food security and advancing the import of breeding yaks from Mongolia to Tajikistan;
Expanding collaboration to mobilize resources from the Green Climate Fund and other international investment mechanisms.
Special attention was also given to locust control, biodiversity conservation, and enhancing FAO’s institutional presence in the country.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in agriculture, food security, and sustainable development at both national and regional levels.
