At the 30th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30) in Belém, a dedicated side event titled “Forests and Land Degradation: Synergy Between the Three Rio Conventions and Central Asia’s Contribution to Global Solutions” brought together regional and international stakeholders.
The session explored innovative pathways for forest restoration, rehabilitation of degraded lands, and biodiversity protection. Representatives of the Secretariats of the three Rio Conventions, FAO, and experts from the OECD presented financial mechanisms designed to support countries in aligning climate action, biodiversity conservation and land-degradation neutrality.
The event gathered participants from UN agencies, environmental authorities of Central Asian countries, the scientific community and civil society organizations.
Speakers emphasized the importance of enhancing coordination across UNFCCC, CBD and UNCCD, while advancing regional initiatives aimed at sustainable natural resource management.
The dialogue concluded with a shared commitment to deepen cooperation in preparation for the Regional Environmental Summit 2026, where countries will work toward a unified ecological vision for the region.
