Over the course of two productive days, May 22 and 23, the historic Tauride Palace hosted more than 1,700 participants from 75 countries, including high-level officials, international organizations, academic institutions, business leaders, and NGOs. The central theme of the congress was “Planet Earth: Living in Harmony with Nature.” During the plenary session, key stakeholders discussed pressing environmental challenges and introduced collaborative solutions. In her opening remarks, Federation Council Chair Valentina Matvienko stated that environmental protection is no longer a niche issue but a matter of global survival and collective responsibility. Participants exchanged views on food and water security, sustainable urban development, technological innovation in environmental monitoring, and circular economy models being adopted across the BRICS countries. The congress also paid special attention to the role of youth and women in environmental governance, as showcased in a dedicated session on gender and climate leadership.
