Uzbekistan and ACWA Power Deepen Partnership on Environmental Technologies and Climate Resilience

26 July 2026Aziz Abdukhakimov, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Environmental Issues and Chairman of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, met with Mohammad Abunayyan, Founder and Chairman of ACWA Power, to review ongoing environmental initiatives and explore new opportunities for cooperation.

The discussions focused on waste management, climate change adaptation, and the deployment of advanced environmental technologies, while also identifying new areas of strategic partnership to support Uzbekistan's sustainable development objectives.

A key topic of the meeting was the implementation of a US$260 million project to establish a modern hazardous industrial waste management complex in Uzbekistan. Both sides discussed practical measures to accelerate the implementation of this major environmental infrastructure project.

The meeting also explored prospects for cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in establishing a national sand and dust storm monitoring and early warning system. The initiative includes the development of an advanced monitoring network, integration of the national platform with international early warning systems, joint forecasting models, and enhanced data exchange among relevant institutions.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation through joint initiatives that promote innovative environmental technologies, strengthen environmental security, and enhance Uzbekistan's long-term climate resilience and sustainable development.
