SIC ICSD Participates in Capacity-Building Workshop on Climate Finance Access in Turkmenistan

Representatives of the Scientific and information center of the Interstate Commission on Sustainable Development of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (SIC ICS) took part in a Stakeholder Meeting on Climate Solutions and Investment Opportunities, organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) with the support of the Government of Turkmenistan and the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
The workshop gathered around 35 participants from key government institutions, including the Ministry of Environmental Protection, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Finance and Economy, State Committee for Water Management, State Committee on Statistics, and the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, as well as representatives of financial institutions and the private sector.
The project showcased its efforts to address barriers to climate finance access in Turkmenistan, such as limited data availability, insufficient financing tools, and low private sector engagement. The meeting presented the outcomes of three major assessments:
On 4 September 2025, a series of multi-stakeholder consultations was also held, where SIC ICSD experts engaged with international project consultants. Discussions focused on financial models for scaling up sustainable technologies, opportunities for public-private partnerships, and preparatory steps toward a national digital climate finance tracking tool.
SIC ICSD shared its expertise and highlighted the importance of regional cooperation and knowledge exchange to strengthen climate resilience and promote sustainable development in Central Asia.
