Ashgabat, May 15, 2025 — The Scientific Information Center of the Interstate Commission on Sustainable Development (SIC ICSD), in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and with the support of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan, held an inception workshop for the project “Enhancing Turkmenistan’s Capacity to Comply with the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF)” under the Paris Agreement (CBIT project).
The workshop gathered over 35 participants from ministries, scientific institutions, and international organizations. The discussions focused on Turkmenistan’s national commitments under the Paris Agreement, the core components of the CBIT project, and the mechanisms for coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of its implementation.
The project aims to strengthen institutional and technical capacities to ensure the completeness, transparency, and timeliness of Turkmenistan’s climate reporting. Special emphasis was placed on enhancing interagency cooperation, improving climate data collection and analysis, and increasing awareness and engagement among national and regional stakeholders.
Participants emphasized that the successful implementation of the project will significantly enhance Turkmenistan’s capabilities in the field of sustainable development, and represents a major step toward fulfilling the country’s climate commitments under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Paris Agreement, and the Regional Environmental Programme for Sustainable Development in Central Asia.
