Scientific-Information Center of the Interstate Commission on Sustainable Development (SIC ICSD) Participates in Regional Training on Greenhouse Gas Inventory for Land Use Sector
Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, October 6–10, 2025 — Representatives of the Scientific and Information Center of the Interstate Commission on Sustainable Development, together with participants from the CBIT project in Turkmenistan, took part in the Regional Practical Training on “Capacity Building for Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory Development and Policy Assessment in the Land Use, Land-Use Change, and Forestry (LULUCF) Sector.” The training focused particularly on evaluating the impact of policies in the LULUCF sector.
The training aimed to strengthen the expertise of the ReCATH Technical Working Group (TWG), national inventory teams, and sectoral experts. Participants gained practical skills in estimating GHG emissions and removals, as well as developing and implementing climate mitigation measures.
Key training topics included:
Land-use monitoring and classification, and analysis of land-use changes;
Methodologies for calculating emissions and removals in forest and agricultural lands;
Preparation of LULUCF sector reports under the Enhanced Transparency Framework;
Assessment of emission reductions resulting from policies, plans, and projects;
Application of tools for evaluating PaMs (Policies and Measures) in the LULUCF sector.
Participants included representatives from all Central Asian countries, including government agencies, research institutions, and international organizations. The in-person format facilitated active discussions, practical exercises, and experience exchange. The training was conducted within the framework of international cooperation to enhance the region’s capacity in climate reporting and sustainable natural resource management, in line with the objectives of the Regional Environmental Protection Program for Sustainable Development of Central Asia (REPP-Central Asia).
