Samarkand to Host the 8th Assembly of the Global Environment Facility in 2026

Tashkent, June 9 — The 8th Assembly and the 71st Council Meeting of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) will be held in Samarkand in 2026, according to the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of Uzbekistan. The official decision to host the events in Samarkand was announced during the 69th GEF Council Meeting in Washington, D.C. The Minister of Ecology of Uzbekistan, Aziz Abdukhakimov, expressed his gratitude to the GEF leadership for their attention to environmental conservation in Central Asia and for supporting the country’s ecological initiatives.

The event in Samarkand is expected to bring together representatives of GEF donor countries and leading international experts. Participants will discuss pressing global environmental challenges, including climate change, biodiversity conservation, and enhancing ecological resilience in the region.

The Assembly will serve as a key platform for attracting investment in green projects, facilitating knowledge exchange, and strengthening intergovernmental cooperation in the field of environmental protection. Special focus will be placed on sustainable development, regional integration, and the formation of joint environmental initiatives.
