A national validation workshop for the Seventh National Report of the Kyrgyz Republic on biodiversity conservation was held in Bishkek. The report is a key document reflecting the country’s progress in fulfilling its international environmental commitments.

The report was prepared by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Kyrgyz Republic and the assistance of the BIOM Ecological Movement.

The Seventh National Report serves as a major tool for assessing Kyrgyzstan’s progress in implementing the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. In 2026, the report will be submitted as the country’s contribution to the global progress review at the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity.

UNDP continues to support the Kyrgyz Republic in promoting sustainable solutions for preserving the country’s unique natural heritage, as well as in implementing the National Development Programme 2030 (NDP-2030). The programme is based on four key development pillars, where effective natural resource management plays a central role.

During the workshop, representatives of government institutions, the scientific community, experts and partner organizations discussed:

▪ progress in ecosystem conservation and expansion of protected areas
▪ forest restoration and sustainable use of natural resources
▪ conservation of species diversity, including measures to restore the snow leopard population
▪ biodiversity risks related to climate change
▪ integration of biodiversity issues into public policy, education and public awareness
▪ financial and institutional mechanisms for implementing national priorities

Participants noted that the preparation of the national report served as an important platform for bringing together government institutions, experts and development partners to develop long-term solutions for biodiversity conservation in Kyrgyzstan.

The report preparation process was supported by the UNDP–GEF project “Umbrella Programme for Supporting NBSAP Updates and the Preparation of Seventh National Reports”, aimed at strengthening national mechanisms for implementing biodiversity commitments.
