Kyrgyzstan and the World Bank Strengthen Cooperation on Sustainable Development

On 4 February 2026, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic with the participation of the World Bank Regional Director for Sustainable Development in Europe and Central Asia, Mr. Sameh Naguib Wahba.

During the meeting, the parties discussed strategic cooperation issues and prospects for expanding collaboration between the Kyrgyz Republic and the World Bank in key areas of sustainable development. Particular attention was given to improving ambient air quality, enhancing climate resilience, and the implementation of the World Bank–financed project “Improving Air Quality in the Kyrgyz Republic.” Opportunities to strengthen cooperation on advancing the Mountain Agenda were also discussed.

Mr. M. Mashiev, Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic, highlighted the importance of World Bank support in implementing national priority programmes aimed at climate change adaptation, reducing environmental risks, and introducing modern environmental solutions. He also noted that the Ministry is actively working on the development and adoption of a climate law, which will establish legal and economic mechanisms to support the country’s transition to low-carbon and sustainable development.

Concluding the meeting, Mr. Sameh Naguib Wahba expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and the constructive dialogue on future cooperation, reaffirming the World Bank’s readiness to continue supporting Kyrgyzstan’s sustainable development agenda.
