From October 27 to 29, 2025, the 13th Session of the Assembly of the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO) is taking place in Seoul, Republic of Korea.
Mr. Daniyar Turganbayev, Chairman of the Committee of Forestry and Wildlife of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, represents Kazakhstan at the session.
AFoCO, which brings together 16 Asian countries, aims to enhance regional cooperation in forest conservation, restoration, and sustainable management. Kazakhstan has been a member of the organization since 2019, actively contributing to its initiatives.
The session focuses on discussing AFoCO’s plans and budget for 2026, the implementation of its Strategic Plan for 2024–2030, and the development of new collaborative projects aimed at ecosystem restoration and climate resilience.
Special recognition was given to the successful Training of Trainers on Forest Fire Suppression (TOTFFS) held in Kazakhstan in August 2025, organized jointly with AFoCO and supported by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs of France.
Kazakhstan also proposed the establishment of a Regional Training Center for Central Asian countries, which would focus on enhancing the professional skills of forestry specialists and promoting regional knowledge exchange. The AFoCO Secretariat welcomed and supported this initiative.
During the session, participants also discussed strengthening regional cooperation, restoring degraded ecosystems, and enhancing the forestry sector’s role in combating climate change.
Kazakhstan’s active engagement within AFoCO contributes to deepening international cooperation, sharing best practices, and attracting global support for national forestry and climate initiatives.
