On 6 October 2026, Kazakhstan and the Green Climate Fund (GCF) signed an agreement to implement a project establishing the Qazaqstan Climate Investment Platform (QCIP). Valued at more than US$1 million, the project will be carried out under the GCF Readiness III programme. The agreement was signed during the GCF Regional Dialogue for Central Asia and Eastern Europe.

It was signed by Saken Kalkamanov, Chairman of the Board of the International Green Technologies and Investment Projects Center, and Thomas Eriksson, GCF Regional Director. Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Nurken Sharbiyev, attended the ceremony.

QCIP will serve as a national mechanism for coordinating climate investment and preparing projects to seek financing from the GCF, the Development Bank of Kazakhstan and other financial partners. The platform is intended to turn individual technology and project proposals into structured projects ready for climate financing.

A steering committee chaired by Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources will coordinate the platform’s work with government bodies responsible for finance, planning, tariffs and economic regulation. The QCIP Secretariat will be hosted by the International Green Technologies and Investment Projects Center.

The platform will connect Kazakhstan’s climate priorities and updated Nationally Determined Contribution with technological solutions, project proposals and potential sources of financing.
