The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Kazakhstan, together with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, held a seminar presenting the results of project TCP/KAZ/4001, aimed at supporting the development of a long-term dairy sector development program in Kazakhstan.
The project was implemented with FAO’s technical support and focuses on enhancing the competitiveness, productivity and investment attractiveness of Kazakhstan’s dairy sector, while aligning its development with international best practices and national agricultural priorities.
Participants were introduced to the results of a comprehensive assessment of the current state of the dairy sector and its production and supply chain in Kazakhstan.
During the seminar, a draft Long-Term Dairy Sector Development Program was presented, along with a proposed Action Plan for its implementation and a Roadmap for attracting investment into the sector.
Discussions focused on priority measures required to ensure sustainable growth, modernization and increased efficiency of milk production. Participants exchanged views on strengthening the dairy value chain, improving productivity and creating favorable conditions for attracting investment into the dairy industry.
“The development of a long-term program for the dairy sector is an important step toward strengthening Kazakhstan’s food security and improving the competitiveness of domestic livestock production. The Ministry highly appreciates FAO’s technical support, which enabled an assessment of the sector’s current state and helped identify priority measures to stimulate sustainable growth, modernization and investment,” said Kairat Koshenov, Deputy Director of the Livestock Department of the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan.
The seminar served as a platform for reviewing the proposed strategic documents, exchanging views and confirming the relevance of the proposed measures. The outcomes of the discussions will contribute to further refinement of the program and support its effective implementation, ultimately strengthening the resilience and long-term development of Kazakhstan’s dairy sector.
