FAO Explores Cooperation with KazAgroOrganic to Advance Organic Agriculture in Kazakhstan

A meeting between representatives of S. Seifullin Kazakh Agrotechnical Research University and experts from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) was held to discuss prospects for cooperation in the development of organic agriculture and sustainable farming systems.
During the meeting, Professor Gulnazym Ospangulova presented the achievements of the KazAgroOrganic technopark, which operates within the university. She emphasized that KazAgroOrganic serves as a modern innovation platform focused on the introduction of advanced agrotechnologies, the promotion of sustainable organic production, and the development of a science-based and practice-oriented foundation for Kazakhstan’s agricultural sector.
Special attention was given to issues related to sustainable organic production and the development and expansion of the national organic products market, reflecting growing demand for environmentally friendly agricultural goods.
FAO experts shared their perspectives and outlined potential areas of collaboration with the technopark, highlighting the strong potential of KazAgroOrganic as a hub for implementing joint initiatives and pilot projects. It was noted that cooperation could be effective and mutually beneficial, aligning with Kazakhstan’s strategic priorities for the development of organic agriculture.
Key areas of possible cooperation include technical and expert support, such as the development of certification and traceability systems for organic products, assistance in strengthening the regulatory framework, and alignment of national standards with international requirements, including those of the European Union.
The discussions also covered capacity development, including training programs, workshops, and educational activities for farmers and agricultural professionals. In addition, the parties explored opportunities for joint research and innovation projects related to organic farming, soil monitoring, combating land degradation and salinization, and the adoption of environmentally sound technologies.
Another promising area of cooperation identified was the development of value chains and processing technologies for organic products, aimed at enhancing export potential and promoting Kazakhstan’s organic products on regional and international markets, leveraging FAO’s technical expertise and communication networks.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed their interest in strengthening long-term partnership, reinforcing the role of KazAgroOrganic as a national hub for organic agriculture development and supporting the sustainable growth of the sector in Kazakhstan.
