Deputy Chairman of Tajikistan’s Committee for Environmental Protection Participates in High-Level Preparatory Meeting in Astana

Astana, February 12–13, 2026. A delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan, led by Loik Rahmonzoda, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, took part in a high-level technical preparatory meeting ahead of the Regional Environmental Summit (RES 2026).

The event was organized with the support of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan and UNICEF, focusing on children’s protection, youth engagement, and climate change.

During the sessions, Loik Rahmonzoda presented Tajikistan’s national priorities under the updated NDC 3.0 framework, highlighting climate adaptation measures, youth participation, and the advancement of environmental education.

As part of the visit, a bilateral meeting was held with Maria Osbeck, Senior Climate and Environment Adviser at the UNICEF Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia. The parties discussed in detail the role of youth and the importance of education in addressing climate challenges in Tajikistan.

The program also included active engagement in discussions on the organizational preparations for RES 2026, including high-level sessions and accompanying panel events.

To familiarize themselves with the summit infrastructure, the delegation visited the Congress Center and the RES 2026 exhibition venue, where issues related to technical arrangements, logistics, and the organization of national pavilions were discussed.

Following the meetings, the parties emphasized the importance of continued cooperation in preparation for RES 2026, with particular attention to integrating education and strengthening youth participation in the regional climate agenda.
