Caspian Dialogue in Avaza: Environmental and Conservation Priorities Discussed

On 5 August 2025, the National Tourist Zone “Avaza” (Turkmenistan) hosted a meeting of representatives from the Caspian littoral states, organized by the Turkmen side. The event brought together senior officials from Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Turkmenistan.

The discussions focused on cooperation in the Caspian region, including environmental safety, biodiversity preservation, and the sustainable use of the sea’s natural resources. Particular attention was given to addressing the issue of the Caspian Sea’s shallowing.

Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts in line with the decisions and agreements reached at the Summits of the Heads of the Caspian States. He stressed Turkmenistan’s proactive role in environmental protection of the Caspian, including the promotion of the Caspian Environmental Initiative announced by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov during the plenary meeting of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.

The participants expressed gratitude to the Turkmen side for the high organizational level of the meeting and reaffirmed their commitment to continuing a constructive dialogue on the Caspian agenda.
