11th Meeting of the CIS Interstate Environmental Council Held

On August 19, 2025, the 11th meeting of the CIS Interstate Environmental Council (IEC CIS) was held online. The meeting was attended by N.K. Sharbiyev, Vice Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The session brought together Mr. S.M. Maslyak, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of Belarus; Mr. A.V. Mkrtchyan, Deputy Minister of Environment of Armenia; Mr. D.D. Tetenkin, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation; Mr. I. Shukurzoda, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Environmental Protection under the Government of Tajikistan; as well as representatives of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and CIS bodies.

The participants reviewed the implementation of decisions from the 10th IEC session and the 2024–2025 work plan, while also sharing best practices in environmental impact assessment, state environmental expertise, and the establishment of transboundary protected areas.

Special emphasis was placed on Kazakhstan’s experience in creating and managing the transboundary biosphere reserve “Altai”, which serves as a successful model of regional cooperation in preserving unique ecosystems.

At the conclusion of the meeting, it was agreed that the 12th IEC session will be hosted by Kazakhstan in 2026.
